Task 3 Prep

  • Remember to add in information about the cloud solution you are adding in and why, I'm adding in AWS as a 3rd party provider
  • Changing the device policy to not allow personal devices onto the network for security reasons
  • Giving out work phones and devices for the 10 remote workers
  • Upgrading the VPN so that it can handle more then 10 concurrent users at a time
  • Upgrading WAP on both sites to remove any redundancy and potential issues around connectivity
  • Upgrading the OS on the server to Windows 2022, no need for a hardware upgrade
  • Adding in all of the services from the Preston into Newquay (Active Directory, Company Software)
  • Remove the single point of failure by backing up files into the cloud to mitigate data loss
  • Maybe suggesting a RAID system would work
  • Adding in access control levels to improve security
  • There should be a sync between the cloud and the local server to make backups seamless
  • Google Pixel 8a will be used as it has a good price and it will go out of support in 2031 giving the organisation lots of time.
  • Adding in some level of physical security
  • Making sure that all the unused ports on both servers are unused
  • Maybe adding in some work laptops for the remote workers as well might be good for security but this can come in a secondary
  • Adding in an offline server that uses Linux will be useful to mitigate a single point of failure

Global RTS The trip was in the morning on the 28th March 2025, Will and Patrick organised it. The purpose of the trip was to gain experience in the aviation industry, specifically air traffic control, using a simulator. We were shown how there simulators work and we were shown how to use them as well as being able to communicate using the aviation alphabet. We met people who worked there, learning how to become an air traffic controller. We used there main sim that used 4 big TVs to show a graphically simulated view of a run way from the view of a tower. We also communicated with headsets to simulate how real air traffic controllers communicate to pilots.
